Gyokeres breaks his silence on potential Ruben Amorim reunion at Man United
Viktor Gyokeres has remained coy about speculation he could join his former manager, Ruben Amorim, at Manchester United.
Amorim spent four years with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, during which time he helped Gyokeres become one of the best strikers in the world, although he has now moved to United.
The Portuguese is preparing for his first game in charge of the club after flying to Manchester almost a week ago as the international break came to an end.
His first game in charge is away to Ipswich on Sunday and one of the challenges he faces is improving the club's goal output, with United currently 16th in terms of goals scored in the Premier League.
The 39-year-old has a number of options at his disposal to help that happen, although there are suggestions United could move to help Gyokeres, who has scored 23 goals in 18 games for Sporting this season, rejoin his team . former boss.
However, the player himself has shut down the speculation, insisting that there have been no talks to finalize a deal yet.
“He probably already has some attackers there, so we'll see,” the striker told Fotboll Skanaal. 'No, he hasn't [asked me to join him].
“It's nice, but I don't attach any importance to it because it's talk and nothing concrete.”
He added via Fabrizio Romano: 'I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here
'We'll see [about a new club] when the time comes. I want to play, that's crucial, and there will be other factors too.'
Speaking about Amorim's departure from Sporting in general, he added: 'It is very sad that he is leaving, but of course we understand his decision.
'Of course he meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that opportunity and that he allowed me to develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.'
