How Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City renewal will affect Real Madrid

The biggest news in football this week was Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's decision to stay and extend his contract beyond the end of the current season and his current contract. It will have a domino effect on the entire elite in Europe.

Also at Real Madrid. Los Blancos have been eyeing a number of their players as potential recruits for some time, but Guardiola's decision makes it more likely that Rodri Hernandez and Erling Haaland will remain at the Etihad, reports Cadena Cope. Following the departure of Toni Kroos, and before Rodri's anterior cruciate ligament injury, Real Madrid had identified Rodri as potentially their best recruit for next season, but Guardiola's presence makes it much less likely that he will leave in the near future.

Haaland has also had success under Guardiola and is also less likely to move, although he is not as devoted to the Catalan coach as the Ballon d'Or. The Norwegian striker has been linked with the Spanish capital before his move to City, and there is still a feeling that Los Blancos will eventually move for him. The dream at the Santiago Bernabeu has been to unite Haaland and Mbappe for some time, although that was before the full emergence of Vinicius Junior.
