Ruben Amorim goes completely unnoticed by oblivious Manchester shoppers days after taking charge as Man Utd manager

NEW Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is in the spotlight, but left shoppers in Manchester in the dark.

Incredibly, the Portuguese manager went unnoticed as he strolled through the busy city centre.

The former Sporting Lisbon chief, 39, arrived in the city last week to much attention and even gave his first interview.

He will be officially unveiled next week, assuming his work permit goes smoothly.

But despite Amorim's signature beard, passersby seemed oblivious as he walked down the street, smiling.

His attire was striking enough: a white top with the hood up that contrasted sharply with a black puffer jacket.

The 14-cap ex-midfielder was accompanied by a mini entourage, all dressed equally casually.

From the relaxed appearance of the group, you would never know that Amorim takes on one of the world's most prestigious and busiest positions in football.

He certainly won't be a mystery shopper in the transfer market as United's global status means he will struggle to pick up bargains.

And within weeks, he will become one of the most recognizable faces in the country.

So it's perhaps no wonder that he seemed to relish his temporary anonymity on a busy Manchester sidewalk.

Amorim replaces the sacked Erik ten Hag, who has been tasked by minority club owner Jim Ratcliffe to revive the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign from 1986 to 2013.

He will be appointed for the first time next week to oversee the training – should, as expected, the necessary paperwork be sorted out.

Amorim, currently based at the five-star Lowry Hotel near Old Trafford, is eagerly waiting to share his ideas with his new squad after the international break.

He has already explained that he wants his players to go on a morale-boosting stadium tour – to “bring strength back into the team”.

Then come his first two games: at Ipswich in the Premier League and at home against Bodo-Glimt in the Europa League.

By then Amorim will have gone from “Man who?” to the man who cannot afford to fail – otherwise he will inevitably be the tenth permanent or temporary boss to leave Old Trafford since Ferguson retired.
