France’s three potential Nations League quarter-final opponents revealed
The French will face a familiar foe when the UEFA Nations League campaign resumes next year. Didier Deschamps' men finished top of Group 2 on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Italy, edging Gli Azzuri on goal difference.
Following the conclusion of the opening phase of this competition on Monday, we know that Les Bleus will face Denmark, the Netherlands or Croatia in the last eight, who all finished second in their respective groups.
France has played these three teams before at this tournament, but never in the knockout stages.
Months after winning the 2018 World Cup, the French played against the Netherlands in the first Nations League tournament, winning the opening match in that head-to-head series at the Stade de France (2-1) and losing the return in Rotterdam. (2-0).
The 2022–2023 Nations League campaign saw Les Bleus drawn into a group with the Croats and Danes, failing to win a single match against either and exiting the competition at the group stage.
We will officially find out who the 2020-21 Nations League winners will meet on Friday after the draw in Switzerland. The quarter-finals will take place at the end of March.
