Stipe Miocic hits out at ‘comical’ Jon Jones after UFC 309 opponent took offence to crude comment

Stipe Miocic has blasted 'comic' Jon Jones after the pair went back and forth over a rude comment he made during camp.

The heavyweight duo have generally been more than respectful towards each other in the lead-up to UFC 309, leading to a relatively uneventful build-up. They were supposed to fight last year, but the fight isn't as intense as most fights with two years of promotion.

However, it now appears the pair are starting to catch fire after a UFC Countdown video shows Miocic calling Jones a 'b****'. This angered the legendary two-weight champion, who hit back in a segment of his own before the pair traveled to New York City.

Stipe Miocic labeled Jon Jones a 'b****' in an off-hand comment

Over the past two years, Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic have been respectful of and perhaps even challenging each other's skills. But that all changed when the two-time champion landed a seemingly innocent, clumsy jab.

There had been almost no needle between the two, with Jones' quiet feud with Tom Aspinall seemingly drawing more attention as the year progressed. But when Miocic simply told his rival, “bring it on,” the New Yorker became angry.

The article was otherwise relatively tame, simply describing their travels since last year's fight was canceled due to a Jones injury. The documentary series is notorious for its formulaic formula and seemingly did little to build the feud between them.

Jon Jones disagreed with Stipe Miocic's rude insult

However, Jones did not receive his rival's jab well at all, and it appears to have fueled tensions between the duo. He hit back with a message of his own on today's episode of the UFC Embedded vlog series, seemingly righteously angry.

“So I'm watching the Countdown with some friends, teammates and family,” Jones told the cameras. “I thought it went very well, I thought we represented ourselves well as gentlemen and very experienced martial artists.

“Then at the end Stipe says 'bring it on b****'. Come on, damn? I didn't think that was necessary. This is the fighting game, if he thinks I'm a *** he has to back it up, that's a lot of pressure. So we'll see who the bastard is.”

The whole thing seems to have made Miocic laugh, instead of being in too much trouble. Jones had also urged him on social media to train with black fighters, which he said was done to “imitate” him in sparring, and the former champion didn't take too kindly to the tweet.

“I'll keep talking about that,” Miocic responded during UFC 309 media day. “He literally told everyone he was going to beat me. I'm almost positive. Didn't he say that before? [the b**** comment was made]? Sorry. Talk about me, but whatever.

As for the racial aspect, Miocic jokingly added: “That was bulls*** because they are my teammates. They say, 'Aren't we getting paid?' Apparently I'm hiring too. Whatever.”
