Barcelona closing in on Inigo Martinez extenstion

Barcelona are confident that Inigo Martinez's contract extension can be completed before the end of 2024.

La Blaugrana will be aiming to win the La Liga title in 2025, with Martinez developing into an experienced leader in Hansi Flick's backline.

The terms of Martinez's current contract would lead to an automatic extension if he plays more than 60% of Barcelona's official matches this season.

The 33-year-old is on course to overcome that milestone with ease, but Barcelona will not allow the situation to continue into the final six months of his contract, from early 2025.

According to reports from Fichajes.net, the club is working on an extension for him to ensure he remains in the squad for the 2025/26 season.

Martinez has amassed 389 La Liga appearances in his long career, which dates back to 2011, and is expected to break the 400 mark after signing an extension in Catalonia.
