Arsenal will be robbed of defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for the rest of the 2024/25 season after the Japanese international underwent a second operation on his knee.
Arsenal Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season after surgery on his knee.
Tomiyasu played only six minutes of football in the 2024/25 campaign, with a knee injury in for the season derailed. He recovered enough to make a short replacement appearance against Southampton in October before he was put aside again.
“It has certainly been the most difficult period in my career and it will continue a little more, but I will not give up. Thank you for your support and see you again. “Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko were among his Arsenal teammates to send their best wishes.
Arsenal was hindered this season by injuries, with the injury problems of Tomiyasu exacerbated by the absence of Ben White on right back. The operation for the 26-year-old comes shortly after Kai Havertz was excluded for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury that required surgery.
Arteta is currently also in attack without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli. The injuries have influenced the attempts of the Gunners to falter in Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. They are currently nine points in the back in the second place prior to Saturday's game against West Ham.
Tomiyasu came to Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, and although he made a number of important contributions in the backline, his career at the club was hindered by injuries. The Japanese International has made 84 performances for the Gunners, but has missed 82 matches due to injuries according to Transfermarkt.
