Taylor upset about ‘really disappointing’ Kelly exit from Man City

The boss of Manchester City Gareth Taylor expressed his disappointment about how Chloe Kelly's time ended up with the citizens.

Kelly joined Women's Super League rivals Arsenal on loan for the rest of the 2024-25 season on Thursday after she expressed her wish to leave the club.

The 27-year-old had only started one match in the WSL for City this season and expressed her frustrations in a passionate social media post on Wednesday.

Kelly revealed that she “just wanted to be happy again”, while she also called concern about her place in the English team for the European Championship in July.

“It was really disappointing to come to this and the end happened,” Taylor said in a press conference on Friday.

“We never hear that a player has not had a good experience, and I am sure that this is not the case for the entire period, perhaps only this more recent period of not playing.

“We are in a selection -based company where difficult decisions have to be made for the improvement of the team. Sometimes players can fall to the sharp end.”

Manchester United had made an offer for Kelly on Thursday, the Deadline of January for the WSL, but it was rejected by the city before a loan agreement was agreed with Arsenal.

In a separate Instagram post on Thursday, Kelly accused people in the club of trying to “kill my character” by “informing me against me”.

When asked about the player's comments, Taylor said: “I don't live in that world of social media, as every head coach would tell you, it's not good for your health.

“I tried to give you a little insight, but I can't really go into detail on our side of the story. We wish her the very best in her new club.”

The ugly situation could cause tense moments this Sunday when Stadsarsenaal of the city is organized in the striking competition of the WSL weekend at Joie Stadium.

The city is third in the rankings, while Arsenal is a point and a place behind them after he has fallen the last time out to a 1-0 defeat for leaders Chelsea.
