Thiago Motta feels that having injuries from having Juventus have a “continuity”, but does not use it as an excuse after back-to-back defeats.
The Bianconeri suffered their first Series A defeat of the season against leaders Napoli last weekend, while they were also defeated in the Champions League on Wednesday.
This season, Juve has had to contend with injuries for various important players, with their latest setbacks that defender Pierre Kalulu saw offside with a muscular issue.
Chelsea -Leenlee Renato Veiga will probably fill the emptiness for this weekend of Empoli, and Motta wants his players to return to winning ways in the light of adversity.
“It's a shame we can't have Kalulu with us,” he told reporters during his press conference before the competition. “There are others who will certainly come in and do well, and they will be a big help.
“Kalulu and Federico Gatti did well [in central defence]. Now we have Renato Veiga who will help us. We didn't have it easy, so many injuries did not help us. This is also the reason why we didn't win. Teams need continuity to reach a large level.
“[The injuries are] No excuse, it is the reality, a fact. But we will never look for apologies. Even other teams who won and when they had had injuries have difficulty retaining a certain level. We are angry about a few defeats. Now let's work hard to win. “
Veiga is one of the three signing sessions that Juventus made during the January transfer window, together with Alberto Costa and Randal Kolo Muani.
It is still to be seen whether there will be more additions to the Allianz Stadium before the window closes, but Motta says he should discuss further business with the club.
“I have never talked about it and I will not do that today, except to say that I am in line with the club,” he added. “I am very happy with the team I have and with the boys.”
