Teenager Desire Doue caps ‘dream’ campaign in style with UCL success

Teenage Star Desire Doue filled a dream season by scoring twice in a stunning version, while Paris Saint-Germain Inter Milan beat 5-0 in Saturday's Champions League final.

“I don't have the words. It's a dream come true. It is just beautiful,” Doue told BroadCaster Canal Plus in a short interview when Delirious PSG fans invaded the field in the Allianz Arena after they had seen their team win the trophy for the first time.

No player embodies the youthful energy and dynamics of the exciting PSG side of Luis Enrique, just like Doue, who enjoyed a remarkable campaign and has now announced himself in the wider world with his display in Munich.

Doue's Masterclass, who came only three days before his 20th birthday, saw him put Achraf Hakimi set up for PSG's early opener.

He then only became the third teenager who scored in the final of the Modern Champions League when he made the night 2-0.

The French International followed in the footsteps of Patrick Kluivert, who was still 18 when he was up for Ajax in 1995, and the Brazilian Carlos Alberto Gomes, a 19-year-old scorer for Porto in 2004.

Doue scored again later before he was completed to the prospective applause and seeing another teenager on the score sheet, Sundy Mayulu replaced the victory with the fifth goal fourteen days after running 19.

“What we did today is magical. We have made the French and European football history and I am so happy with how everything has disappeared this season,” said Doue after what the biggest victory ever was by a club in the final.

An amazing season for PSG after the departure of Talisman Kylian Mbappe has won them for the first time Europe's Elite Club competition after they had also completed a domestic competition and cup double.

It has been a particularly remarkable year for Doue, whose beautiful feet former PSG -Superster Neymar remember at its best.

Doue came to PSG from Rennes in August for a reported 50 million euros (£ 42 million), with a deal of five years.

He had made 76 performances for Rennes in the previous two campaigns and received his debut at the age of 17 in August 2022.

Olympic silver to European glory

Nevertheless, Doue needed time to settle in his new environment, not least after he had played for Thierry Henry's France team during their run to the final of the Olympic Games in Paris.

He only started four games before the side of Luis Enrique in the first four months of the season, including in a 2-0 defeat by Arsenal.

His progress from mid -December, however, was surprising and coincided with a remarkable form of form by his team.

Doue has become a regular starter and played an important role in the Luis Enrique team that reaches the final, including scoring the first goal in a 3-0 victory in Salzburg in December that kickstop their European campaign.

He then converted the decisive kick in the penalty shoot-out against Liverpool in the last 16 before he also scored an excellent goal against Aston Villa in the quarterfinals.

Talented

Doue, whose name translates in an appropriate way as “talented”, the campaign ends with 15 goals and 16 assists in 54 performances.

“It is my first season here, and it was a dream when I came here to win (the Champions League). Great players played here and not won it, but we have shown incredible collective power and it is just beautiful,” he said.

“I needed time to adapt to playing for Paris Saint-Germain, but I have great players next to me and that helps me to get better every day.

“We still have great things to try to achieve with this club.”

Doue expressed excitement about the prospect to return to Paris to celebrate during a planned parade along the Champs-Elysees, but he will soon have to get back to work.

His older brother Guela, with whom he played in Rennes, plays international football for Ivory Coast, the land of the birth of their father.

In the meantime, desire had his progress since he moved to PSG, rewarded when he got his senior France debut in March.

He will return to Germany to represent France in the UEFA Nations League Finals of next week, before he is taken to the United States with PSG while having more silverware in the club World Cup.
