Jose Mourinho and John Terry claimed that the Premier League-winning team of Chelsea 2004-05 was better than the famous Invincibles side of Arsenal.
The blues ran 20 years ago to the title of the top flight after a remarkable season in which they achieved 95 points and only admitted 15 times, an English competition record.
Mourinho had replaced Claudio Ranieri as a manager last summer and his side finished 12 points free from Arsenal. Their only defeat came against Man City in October 2004.
The Gunners had been the reigning champions, with the men of Arsene Wenger picking up 90 points during their Memorable campaign of 2003-04 that became the only top side of the flight that was unbeaten.
As a result of their performance, Wenger's side are seen in different circles as the largest Premier League side ever, although others have supported the Chelsea business, while some have emphasized the success of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side in recent years.
And Terry, who led Chelsea to Glory, gave his opinion and claimed that his former side does not get the honor they deserve.
“I'm really going to be controversial,” he told the Telegraph. 'But I don't think there is a comparison between Chelsea 04-05 and the Arsenal Invincibles. I think we were much better. We have lost one game that we should never have losed to Man City.
'Arsenal attracted 12 games. When I hear the debate, I think the report of losing one, eight drawing and only admitting that amount of goals is sensational. '
Terry also emphasized that he felt that Chelsea's performance was deflated in some circles because of the heavy investment that came the summer before.
Prior to what the second season of the Roman Abramovich era was, Ranieri was fired and Mourinho was poached from Porto where he had won the Champions League.
There were substantial transfer expenditure on Ricardo Carvalho, Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben, Paulo Ferreira and Petr Cech, among others.
Mourinho echoed Terry's thoughts, although he insisted that he was not bothered by the external opinion.
“Arsenal People, Man United People, Man City People, they don't give so *** about Chelsea 2004-05,” he added. 'In the same way that we, Chelsea, do not give about the invincibles or what they did.
“It's about what we know. What we know what we have done and what we share between us. '
Frank Lampard, who scored 13 Premier League goals in 2004-05, also weighed the debate, although he was measured more in giving his answer.
'I think so [2004-05] corresponds to what the invincibles did, it corresponds to what Pep [Guardiola] Did MAN City in our own way, “he said. “We certainly deserve to be in the debate and the conversation about the largest Premier League teams.”
During the 2004-05 campaign, Chelsea also won the EFL Cup, while reaching the semi-final of the Champions League.
They won the title again the following season before Mourinho left the club in September 2007.
He then returned in 2013 and won a third Premier League in Chelsea, until he left for the second and last time in December 2015.
