Chelsea icon John Terry has claimed that one of his former teammates could still fit in every Premier League side, even though he retired three years ago
The 44-year-old Center Back enjoyed a legendary career at Stamford Bridge, in addition to some of the best midfielders in the world for him, such as Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and Juan Mata.
In an interview with Talksport on Wednesday, however, the Blues icon was full of praise for former teammate John Obi Mikel, in which it was explained that the former Nigeria International could be a great addition to every Premier League side, even after his retirement.
The 37-year-old played his last football match for Kuwait SC in October 2021.
“He was brilliant,” Terry said. “It was brilliant to let him play for me. He covered so much soil.
'I still play in ex-Legends games and so on and he can still play. He could still play in the Premier League today. He didn't have it all?
'Those who keep midfielders such as brokerele are recognized. There are certain players in that role that do not get the honor they deserve. And Obi was one of them. '
The duo shared the Stamford Bridge field between 2006 and 2017, with more than 17,000 minutes in 266 games.
Both stars have lifted countless large trophies, such as the Premier League in 2010 and 2015, as well as the Champions League in 2012.
The former Nigeria International appeared against Bayern Munich for the entire 120-minute match, in a collision that is well reminded by the Blues fans.
Obi Mikel arrived in July 2006 on Stamford Bridge from Lyn FK and was an important part of the pressure on the success of Roman Abramovich.
In total, the Nigerian midfielder got 372 performances for the blues and scored six goals while added 12 assists.
The words of Terry, however, seem exaggerated, because the blues have £ 115 million those Moises Caicedo sign in their midfield.
Earlier Obi Mikel praised the Ecuadorian and said that one day he would become the club captain if he would continue to deliver his impressive performance this season, after a nightmare campaign last year.
“We talked about Moises Caicedo and how much we thought he did not start really well with his Chelsea career and a few games in his Chelsea career, there were many mistakes,” Mikel said on his Obi One podcast.
'Everyone thought:' Why did we pay so much money for this guy? 'Now we can see the versions that he performed at Brighton and things like that, so absolutely fantastic player.
'Now you can feel that this is the Moises Caicedo that we all know and even if you look at him, if you look at him now, you can see that there is a bit of trust there.
“I think he might continue with the team.”
The side of Maresca is now in fourth place in the Premier League classification after a gloomy 1-0 loss by Arsenal on Sunday.
The blues were beaten from both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, but continued their fight in the quarterfinals of the Conference League, where they are ready to Legia Warszawa.
