‘The game got away from us’ – Postecoglou rues another Spurs defeat

Ange Postecoglou brought a well-known failure after Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Fulham when Tottenham let another chance miss.

Spurs dominated large periods of the second half in Craven Cottage, but were punished for not benefiting their predominance, with late goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon who sealed the victory for the hosts.

The 15th Premier League defeat of Tottenham of the season, their joint city in this phase of a campaign (also 15 after 29 games in 1997-98), leaves them 13th place in the Premier League table.

They could fall further when Manchester United visits Leicester City on Sunday, and Postecoglou would like to tackle their problems after the sixth consecutive loss of Spurs in a competition prior to an international break.

“It was a tight game, it is always when you play here,” he told BBC match of the day. “I thought for the most part, we were quite comfortable. We had a big chance to continue, and then we gave a really soft goal and the game came to us.

“Both goals were pretty soft. At least you want to stay in the game. I thought we were the better team in the second half and until that moment had the best chances. So to admit is very disappointing.

“It was certainly a difficult campaign. But I think we have lost too many games where we should have had things, and this was one of those games.

“It is another international break where we go in a loss, and you can feel that. We just have to make sure that we are ready for when we come back.”

In the meantime, Marco Silva celebrated his 200th Premier League match with a victory to keep Fulham good in the hunt in European places, with the cottagers only four points on drift of fourth place Chelsea.

After Muniz and Sessegnon had climbed from the bank to find the net, Fulham has now scored 13 goals through replacements in the Premier League this season, more than any other side.

“The entire first half was in our offensive half,” Silva said. “We had a number of good moments, but of course the last pass, the last cross was not the best. During the break the conversation was to be patient.

“We wanted to end in the upper half of the table at the start of the season. Of course, when you get there, you can go upstairs. We are not going to try to make a compromise for everyone.

“I don't like if's in football. I like to look at the present and the future. For us the game is not the end of the season.”

“It places us above for the European places, and it is also nice to get a goal,” added Sessegnon, who only made 57 performances during an injury hit five-year-old spell with spurs.

“As a team we have one eye [on the European places] And we take the game per game. We just have to continue. “
