Ephraín Álvarez was one of the striking players for Tijuana in recent Liga MX tournaments, who contribute to goals and assists for Los Xolos. His impressive versions caught the attention of both Club América and Chivas Guadalajara, who fought for his signing for the Apertura 2025.
And it was Chivas who finally won the race for the signature of Álvarez. At the end of last month, the 12-way Mexican champions announced the signature of the 22-year-old, after he had lured the former Los Angeles Galaxy player to Estadio Akron on a reported four-year contract.
Ephraín explains the Chivas choice
Currently, Álvarez is aimed at the Mexican national team while preparing for the Concacaf Gold Cup, which will start next week. However, while he was in international duty, he took the time to discuss his move to Chivas – and made it clear what motivated him to put on the red and white sweater.
“Now I am at Chivas, I am very happy, I have to say,” said Álvarez. “I am enthusiastic to be there. At the end of the day I felt in my heart that I wanted to go to Chivas, so that's what happened.”
Mexicans go for gold
Álvarez will spend most of the summer with El Tri under the leadership of Javier Aguirre, while the Mexicans try to retain the Gold Cup title. Pulled in a first round group with Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Suriname, the nine times tournament winners start their campaign against the Dominicans on June 14.
As soon as the participation of the national team in the Gold Cup has been closed, the attacker will report for Chivas pre -season training, under new head coach Gabriel Milito.
