Gary Lineker believes that the current struggles of Manchester United can be traced to Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Red Devils poured out of the FA Cup on Sunday after a defeat of a penalty shootout against Fulham.
The men of Ruben Amorim continue to endure a disastrous season, which is currently growing away in the lower half of the Premier League.
Outside the field, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been criticized for a series of dismissals and cost-saving measures.
After Sunday's defeat in Old Trafford, BBC Pundit and former England Striker Lineker discussed the state of United.
And he believes that the structure was in place when Ferguson left the club in 2013, was not enough.
He said: “If you look at Liverpool now, they have a new manager in Arne Slot and it is proof of how Jurgen Klopp has left the club in a really good condition.
'So the structure is really good. That was probably not the case at the end of Sir Alex Ferguson [time at Old Trafford]. “
Ferguson won the Prem A record with United 13 times, including in 2012/13 despite an outdated team.
Lineker continued: “I know they won the competition that season.
“But it wasn't their best side, and many of their great players came at the end of their career.
“I think from there that they had problems. The academy did not yield the players they were earlier.”
Lineker was accompanied on the panel in Old Trafford by Wayne Rooney, Danny Murphy and Micah Richards.
And former United -striker Rooney admitted that the club no longer has the pulling force that Everton seduced him from Everton in 2004.
The 39-year-old said: “You have to be in a stable position to bring in the best players.
“If I am a player who plays in another country or another club, Man United comes to me, and I think of thinking:” You know, I don't know for sure. “
“The top players want Champions League football. And unfortunately that is not where the club is.”
Despite United's unrest, Roo believes that Amorim can be the man to turn things around – but admits that challenging for a title is a long way.
He added: I think so [Amorim] will get [time].
“It's not a free hit because I think you would expect a little more from Manchester United than what we see since he has been inside.
“It is very difficult to come in during the season and not to have the preseason to implement his plans with the team.
“He has to look to the future.
He says [he wants to] Win the Premier League, but how can they compete to get a little further on the table, I think that is the next step for them.
“I think it is a bit naive to say:” We want to win the Premier League “because, where they are now, are a long way.”
