‘They have to do better’ – Martinez blames Man Utd stars’ tactic

Lisandro Martinez claims that Manchester United should stop playing long balls for the strikers.

The United Defender admits that the team must do more to spend Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both struggling in front of Ruben Amorim.

Martinez, who scored the winner in Sunday's 1-0 win over Fulham to illuminate the pressure on Amorim, accepted that the service to Hojlund and Zirkzee has been bad.

He said: “We take responsibility.

'I think we played many long balls for them [against Fulham] And it was really difficult for them.

“They fight against two center backs and the center backs here in the Premier League are really difficult if you try to win the ball.

“But they also have to do better. They are really good players, but we have to contribute more and place them in better space or places on the field.

“We have to find them in the right places and dangerous places to make them score.”

Hojlund, seven times on Target this season, did not score in his last 11 games.

Zirkzee has only four goals after his summer movement from Bologna.

But United is now preparing for Thursday's Europa League match against FCSB in Romania in search of a third consecutive victory under Amorim.

Martinez added: “We should definitely keep this momentum.

“It's a great feeling if you win, but we have to be humble.”

When asked about trust in the dressing room, the Argentinian star did not want to go overboard.

He said: 'We are okay. I'm not going to talk about trust and things like that.

“Beating Fulham was really important because we had not received the best results in the Premier League.”

United took their first clean leaf in the win since December 1.

Amorim's side had not stopped a team to score since a 4-0 win over Everton 14 games ago.
