Thierry Henry is a ‘leading candidate for top international manager’s job’

According to reports, Thierry Henry could be ready for a return to management on the international stage.

The Arsenal legend has previously managed Monaco and Montreal Impact at club level before coaching France Under-21s and his country's Olympic team at last year's Paris Games.

He left his role with the French national team after winning a silver medal at the Olympics and has since returned to punditry, but is now in contention for a new top job on the sidelines.

According to L'Equipe, Henry is one of the two main candidates to become the next Belgian national coach, while the European country is expected to fire Domenico Tedesco soon.

Henry, who previously had two separate spells as Belgium assistant coach when working under Roberto Martinez, is expected to face Rudi Garcia to replace Tedesco.

Tedesco will be fired after a disappointing European Championship 2024 season, in which Belgium was eliminated by France in the round of 16.

After taking over from Martinez after the 2022 World Cup, Tedesco led Belgium on a 14-match unbeaten run heading into last summer's European Championship.

However, the Red Devils only won one of their four games in Germany before being eliminated.

Things went from bad to worse after the tournament, as Belgium lost four of their six Nations League matches after being placed in a group with France, Italy and Israel.

The Belgian Football Association now wants a new manager for the next international break in March.

They aim to make a decision on their preferred candidate by the end of this month and then finalize a deal in February. Clearly, Henry and Garcia are the two favorites to take the position as things stand.

Garcia has coached Lyon, Marseille and Lille in France, while also coaching Roma's Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In his last job, he lasted just four months at Napoli before being relieved of his position in November 2023.
