Leeds expanded their unbeaten pre-season run after drawing 1-1 with AC Milan.
The side of Daniel Farke started quickly, Anton Stach cracked an attempt from the bar and Willy Gnonto who hit a golden chance, but was behind.
Immediately back, Isaac Schmidt was caught and Santiago Gimenez arrived on the distant pole to end a Devil's cross on the half hour.
The whites dominated after the interval and earned their reward when Stach's Cross-shot bustled through a crowd of bodies and nestled in the bottom corner.
Here, Daily Mail Sports reporter Aadam Patel reveals five things he learned this Saturday afternoon at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.
Killer Edge is missing
Daniel Farke admitted last weekend that his side was not ready for the Premier League.
With James in the side again, there was reason to be optimistic and Leeds started well with Wilfried Gnonto in a number of dangerous positions in the left flank.
Gnonto wasted a golden opportunity when he was on goal, but instead of using it, eventually put the ball straight into the hands of the Milanese guard.
Joel Piroe tested Pietro Terracciano on the edge of the break, but the chances were few and far apart against a second string Milan-Outfit. Leeds fought well, but there was no edge of the murder in the last third and Farke will know.
Immediately back on Square One
Jayden Bogle did not travel because of a hip injury and is a doubt for the Premier League opener of Leeds against Everton.
Worrying for Farke, the weather was a shaky display from Isaac Schmidt on Right back, who lost the ball a few times and physically struggled against the Milan players.
The Italian side was relentlessly focused on the right of Leeds and their opening goal came from that side. Leeds would like to add a full-back to their ranks and also have Sam Byram as an option for next Monday.
Depending on the severity of Bogle's injury, it could be one of their most crucial investments in the coming weeks.
Stach against the best
The biggest positive came in the form of a 6ft 4 in German midfielder. Anton Stach was fantastic and showed exactly why Leeds was desperate to bring him in.
He connected well with Gnonto and James, looked like he had in the world in the middle of the park all the time and came close to opening the score when he rattled the bar with his weaker foot. From the ball he was ruthless and aerial, he was a powerful headers from the corners.
The 26-year-old was the best player of Leeds in the afternoon and he concluded a high-quality all-round display with a brilliant goal from outside the frameworks.
You can see him play a huge role this season.
End of night for Meslier
For Illan Meslier, the end almost seems to be when it was not yet. The Frenchman was not here in the team and the new signing Lucas Perri bore the number one sweater for Leeds.
Perri, who was signed from Lyon, started but did not save in the 45 minutes he played, but Leeds fans got a first sight of his huge throws.
In honesty, the Brazilian could not do anything about the goal in which Santiago Gimenez emphatically ended. With Perri still not completely fit, Karl Darlow came up during the break and is expected to be the backup custodian.
It is difficult to see Meslier around the age of 25 to be a third-choice, but Leeds still has to receive an offer.
Harrison's mixed reception
Less than a week before the Premier League starts and Jack Harrison is still a Leeds player. When Harrison came up, he was initially greeted at a choir of anger from huge parts of the Leeds supporters at the Aviva Stadium, but during his short cameo some fans decided to cheer back when he got the ball.
It was a sign of hope that everything was not lost and he must start the campaign as a Leeds player, it will not all be gloomy about his own supporters. Leeds fans have not forgotten his move when they were relegated, but in Harrison they have a player with tons of top experience – something that Farke knows that his side is missing.
