Viktor Gyokeres scored his first Arsenal goal in a 3-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.
Gyokeres led Martin Zubimendi's search for Cross Beyond goalkeeper Unai Simon before performing his trademark celebration at his second performance of Emirates.
The striker, signed for £ 64 million from Sporting Lisbon, was involved in the construction of the second goal and found Declan Rice who in turn chose Gabriel Martinelli. Simon hurried out but was caught, causing Martinelli Bukayo Saka to stand.
In one of his last acts, Gyokeres saw another agile header tipped on the woodwork, before his replacement Kai Havertz also came on the score sheet.
Here Iaan Khan from Daily Mail Sport reveals the five things he has learned …
Promising early signs for gyokees
Viktor Gyokeres is outside the goal. The teammates of the signing of the £ 64 million have had a difficult time to find their shiny striker in recent friendly matches for the season.
Yet there was a real reflection of the qualities that the Swede brings to this team.
The 27-year-old hit with a first half of the beautiful cross of Martin Zubimendi, and was considerably more present than in the 3-2 defeat against Villarreal.
In that competition, Gyokees ran around with conviction, only to suffer from a very limited service. While he was well involved in the action and the game against Athletic Bilbao.
Those calls from supporters, who extend until last summer, were indeed justified for a striker.
There were a series of hard runs to the name rule, the ball back to teammates, or looting sprints on the left flank that extended the back line of the opposition.
In the area he was desperate to influence the game. He had a bad shot at 21 minutes from a Bukayo Saka Cross in the ground, but he did not let him put him off.
Shortly thereafter, Gyokers scored that header and then continued in the same spirit in the second period and hit a pole with a donkey head of the cross of Noni Madueke.
It corresponds to the piece that Mikel Arteta has been missing for a while: a striker that can make things happen.
They are still early days, but the signs look promising.
Tireless Zubimendi radiates class
Arsenal was already dizzy about the acquisition of Martin Zubimendi, after fighting Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
You can see why, the diminutive Spaniard who shoots around like a wasp to pick up lost balls, rob opponents and give the ball away quickly.
It was a great display, and one that serves as a memory of Premier League teams of the quality they will be against if they are confronted with Arsenal. He is really the Gunners version of Rodri.
Time and again he would surprise an opponent, with a challenge in pace to remove the ball in narrow neighborhoods.
Zubimendi played on the ball as if the time itself was frozen, so that his quality gave himself that extra time to dictate the game.
His lush cross to set up the goal of Gyokeres, it ended, making Bilbao fail to close it out and the ball falls straight to the money.
The Spaniard plays in a position that is often overlooked.
Yet the Gunners know all too well the quality they have bought and how crucial Zubimendi will be.
Arsenal Target Stil
The man Arsenal had finally reached the Emirates in Nico Williams this summer – but in the colors of Athletic Bilbao.
The wish of the North -London club to bring a reinforcement for the left wing is no secret and Williams was on their list.
But the hope of the Gunners to lure the attacker was terminated when he wrote a contract extension of eight years last month to stay in Athletic Bilbao until 2035.
Williams had a quiet afternoon, partly because the midfield on his side could not get a strangulation at all in a competition that dominated Arsenal.
It left him isolated and with little chance to drive to his opponents before he was replaced at 64 minutes.
In the end a pity for Williams, a talented player who, if the ball was given, would certainly have shown the skills that would put him on the radar of the Gunners.
A contract for 2035, however, places paid to every movement.
Titans reunited at the back
With the Premier League opener Van Arsenal against Manchester United next Sunday, Gabriel was starting next to William Saliba a real boost.
The Brazilian underwent a hamstring operation in April and came up in the second half on Wednesday. His start was a further indication of his competition fitness that entered the new season.
He looked at convenience, no signs of stopping, nor affected by injury.
It would be negligent to expect him by 100 percent, but he fought in his usual way and certainly seems to start against Man United.
Gabriel was a typical nuisance on corner kicks and the backline went well with his Sidekick Saliba.
He had not physically lost any presence in duels and was not afraid of such scenarios, an important sign when returning an injury.
There is a clear telepathy when both Saliba and Gabriel play. Bilbao even had few chances in the attacking third because the backline of Arsenal was well organized.
Havertz filled on goal
The return of Kai Havertz missed most of the end of last season's campaign as a result of a hamstring.
The German, who looked noticeably more muscular from his recovery process, came up in the 71st minute and had a quick impact.
Eleven minutes later, Havertz put two defenders aside to go to a Saka pass in the Downfield.
The goal will have done him a world of good after he has seen the impact of new husband Gyokees.
There is a healthy dose of competition in the central forward position.
Havertz offers another option for Gyokees and will be about to keep his place. It is an intriguing prospect.
