Thomas Frank explains what went wrong but insists his side will be ready for PSG

Thomas Frank admitted that Tottenham was far below their best in Thursday's 4-0 defeat by Bayern Munich and suggested that a lack of energy was central to the problem.

But the Spurs boss insisted that his side is fully prepared for Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup next week.

The defeat in Munich was Frank's first since he took the lead earlier this summer, and came only six days before his team accepted the ruling European champions in Udine.

Tottenham was 1-0 behind during the break before he was flooded in the second half, while Bayern Senior Stars mixed with a wave of talented Academy players.

Frank spoke with Spursplay after the game: 'We clearly played a very good team tonight. In my opinion, Bayern is one of the teams that are probably favorites to win the Champions League.

'They achieved a good level, we did not reach a good level, that is a bad combination, but we will certainly learn from these. I definitely have a number of answers we will look at and we will now think quietly after the game and look through it.

“It also seems that somehow we missed some energy that we should find – can't play a team without that energy.”

Spurs was just back to Europe after a demanding tour for the season with competitions in Hong Kong and Seoul-a factor that may have contributed to the lack of energy that Frank would refer.

Tottenham's trip to the Allianz Arena was their last warming for Wednesday's confrontation with PSG in Udine. While the Scoreline caused a grim reading, Frank said there was plenty to take from the summer in general.

“As a whole, from the beginning to the present, I think it is generally positive,” he said. 'It was a negative performance and a negative result today, but in general there have been a number of really positive achievements – the Arsenal One, we were pretty happy with many pieces in the Newcastle One – then it is about that consistency in the team and the principles we want to get in the players.

“It will take a bit to reach that consistent level that we want, but I don't doubt that we will get there.”

Frank remains convinced that his players will respond and be ready for the challenge to be in front of the European champions next week.

“We will be 100 percent ready for that game, I don't doubt that,” he added. “There are six days before the bow, we have a normal week in the last two weeks for the first time, so with everything – just go down, travel less, to ratify them (the players), three or four good sessions – then we will be ready against PSG.”
