Tottenham Hotspur's new head coach Thomas Frank promises a team that will take risks in words that show the feelings that are shared by his predecessor Ange Postecoglou
Thomas Frank will encourage Tottenham to gamble in attack, because that is what the club requires.
New boss Frank replaced Gung-Ho Ange Postecoglou last week after he paid the prize for a 17th place of the League finish. But Postecoglou also won the first piece of silverware of the club to win the Europa League for 17 years – which means that Frank will not only inherit a team full of players who excites him, but have an immediate chance to impress the Champions League.
And in his first interview since leaving Brentford, who received £ 10 million in compensation, Frank made comparable sounds to his predecessor when it comes to describing his desired style.
“The intention is to play aggressive, forefoot football. I know that the ethos and the history of the club are enormous in attacking football,” he said.
“There is so much offensive talent in the team. I am very enthusiastic about that. They have clearly shown in the past two seasons that the opportunity to score goals is fantastic.
“I am very busy with that. I love a team that scores goals. We just want to build on that attacking football that we already have.
“I am a strong in favor of if you do not take risks, you also take a risk. It is important that we take risks. If we play man-to-man in some situations, the risk that you have to play is. If you do not risk, you can not make anything.
“The players must be brave and trust themselves. I will do my best to set that confidence. If they lose the ball through, that is never a problem. Of course I can respond, that is of course, but they have to do that.
“If they don't work hard, I'll struggle with that. That is my non-negotiable. If you don't take any risks, it is impossible to achieve something big.”
Frank added that if the club has to realize its vision, it should be linked to the hierarchy thinking – starting with chairman Daniel Levy.
The DANE is Levy's 13th permanent manager recruitment in 24 years as chairman and he added: “I think that coordination is crucial from top to bottom. It starts from Daniel, Vinai (Venkatesham, Chief Executive) and Johan (long, technical director).
“The more we can be aligned, such as an unbreakable unity, the stronger we will be. There will be ups and downs, but at the moment it is a fairy tale. It's fantastic.”
