After an excellent 18-year career in Germany, Thomas Muller finally said goodbye to fans of Bayern Munich during this summer's World Cup.
Muller leaves Bundesliga champions and two-time Champions League winner. As an addition of countless domestic cups and the World Cup 2014 with the German national team, he is one of the most decorated players of his generation.
And now it seems that he will bring his talents to MLS where he is ready to become a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The news was reported by the athletics, who believe that Muller is now in advanced conversations with the Canadian club to secure a move. He has no contract, so he does not require transfer costs and is apparently prepared to sign a non-designated player deal.
One bottleneck can be 'Discovery Rights', an MLS mechanism with which teams can get priority when negotiating for an incoming player. FC Cincinnati currently has Muller's discovery rights, so the Whitecaps have to pay release costs to Cincy for the player.
A similar situation arose last year when the La Galaxy Marco Reus ran, whose explorations were held by Charlotte FC. In that case, a reimbursement of around $ 400,000 was sufficient to release giant and allow him to move to the Galaxy.
The arrival of a player of Muller's caliber would be an important boost for the Whitecaps, because they want to build on an excellent start of the 2025 ml season. They achieved the Concacaf Champions Cup -Final – eliminating Inter Miami on the road – and are only one point behind the leaders of the Western conference San Diego FC as it looks now.
