Thomas Tuchel praises confident Myles Lewis-Skelly on debut

Thomas Tuchel praised Myles Lewis-Skelly's “Natural Confidence” After the debutant in England scored in the 2-0 victory of Friday in Albania but Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden has challenged to improve their performances.

The 18-year-old Kick-Startte Tuchel's term of office with a trench finish 20 minutes in his debut in England. The Arsenal defender continued to impress when England later found a second via Harry Kane in the game.

After the game, Tuchel spoke with the media and praised the courage of the teenager, who borrowed his fast process early in his career.

“He is such an open character,” Tuchel said.

“He was great in the camp. Full of confidence, full of humor. You see everything on the field, outside the field. He does it with a natural confidence. That's how he plays football. Full of courage and quality. He was decisive and opened this game for us.”

Tuchel was also impressed by the versatility of Lewis-Skelly during the victory and explained how the teenager was used as a tactical weapon during the game.

“He played the second half like an eight, we wanted to take more risks,” said Tuchel.

“The first half we played in a 4-1 and 4-1 in front. He played more conventional and scored more in advance. He played like a no. 8 or 10. I think his best position he plays for Arsenal in the left double six, reverse role.

“If you see him in possession games, the quality of the first touch, exercise, how he plays the passes, is a very high understanding of the game. He is very versatile and can do many things. We have played more conventional today because there are many players for different clubs.”

Tuchel admits work that is needed as Foden and Rashford Struggle

Marcus Rashford was a surprising admission to the first line -up of Tuchel and earned his first English cap for more than a year. The Aston Villa man, on loan from Manchester United, was accompanied by Phil Foden, who struggled for form at club level.

A dry evening for the Midfielder of Manchester City means that Foden did not register in a goal or an assist in one of his last 17 performances for his nation.

When asked about their performances after the game, Tuchel said: “Both wing players were not as impactful as normal they can be because they are normally in club football.

“I am not sure why we had trouble bringing the ball to them faster, not sure why it took us so long. We missed a little runs of the ball and not passing enough and dribbling.

“Not driving enough with the ball. Not aggressively enough for the goal. They were decisive in training, that's why we chose them.”

He added to Foden: “We will encourage him to do what he does best: go to defenders, go to Dribbels.”
