‘Thomas Tuchel was LUCKY to get the England job,’ insists Arsenal legend Lehmann

Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann does not expect that England's 59-year-old waiting time will end up a large trophy among his countryman Thomas Tuchel.

Indeed, the former Gunners star believes that Tuchel was lucky to be hired as three Lions boss after his rather overwhelming enchantment with Bundesliga Giants Bayern Munich.

Lehmann, who made 61 performances for Germany for a decade -long international career, does not believe that Tuchel's nationality should have forbidden him to take the job. But he insisted that the former Chelsea and PSG boss are unable to reach his explained goal to win the World Cup 2026.

“He is not a traitor for me,” Lehmann told Talksport Drive. 'For me he is very lucky to get so good work. There must be a reason why he is no longer with Bayern Munich. It is very difficult to be fired by Bayern Munich.

“But we are happy for him that he is now the English coach.”

Tuchel will make his bow as an English boss when De Drie Leeuwen welcomed Albania on Friday at Wembley.

The German seems to have made a stunning impression with different teams, including Morgan Gibbs-White and Harry Kane, who have sung his praise.

However, there was criticism from some quarters after his appointment from England and perhaps the most especially from his native Germany.

Lehmann spoke the claims of former Leicester City and Chelsea defender Robert Huth, who admitted that he would not accept a German English manager and even went as far to label him as a 'traitor'.

“There is not something like a traitor mentioning,” said Lehmann. “I heard that from Robert for the first time. I love Robert and sometimes like his clear views.

“It is no longer a chance to win anything, but it's good for him.”

The healthy trophy cabinet of Tuchel after 14 years of management is rightly considered to be considered one of the best head coaches in world football. Although short and under expectations, his time in Bavaria produced a Bundesliga title to add to his two Ligue 1 -crowns, German Cup, French Cup and Champions League.

Speaking for the collision against Albania, the 51-year-old delivered a destructive assessment of the English Euro 2024 campaign among his predecessor Gareth Southgate.

Asked if England had a clear playing style with the euro, Tuchel told ITV Sport: “Last summer, no.”

Tuchel worked on what was missing: 'The identity, clarity, the rhythm, the repetition of patterns. The freedom of players, the expression of players, the hunger.

“They were more afraid to put out of the tournament, in my observation, than to be excited and hungry to win it.”
