Tierney move to Celtic will ‘definitely take place in the summer’ – Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the proposed relocation from Kieran Tierney to Celtic “will certainly take place in the summer”, but hopes that a deal can be agreed during the January transfer window.

The contract of the Scotland International with Arsenal is at the end of the season, with the hoops who would like to take him back to Celtic Park for a second spell.

Tierney came to Celtic due to the youth ranks and won four Scottish Premiership titles before he joined the Gunners in 2019.

The 27-year-old spent on loan last season at Real Sociedad and made this period only five performances for Arsenal in all competitions, after he has only recently returned from an injury.

“He is still an Arsenal player at the moment,” said Rodgers. “I think we agree that it will certainly take place in the summer. If we can do it in advance, then it's great.

“I don't want to speak too much about it with the greatest respect, because he is not a Celtic player here now. But if we could do it, we would of course want to do that, but that is out of our control over time at the moment. “

Rodgers also confirmed that Alex Valle's seasonal loan spell from Barcelona has come to an end, where Como is said to be interested in bringing the 20-year-old for the rest of the campaign.

“Alex will no longer play,” said Hoops head coach. “Unfortunately he is currently in Barcelona and will probably continue to another team. We are disappointed that he has left, but we have to continue.”
