After a waiting period of 15 years, Deportivo Toluca ended their League MX title drought when they were crowned champions of Mexican football last Sunday, thanks to a 2-0 victory at Club América in the Estadio Nemesio Diez.
Toluca stars set for movements?
During the Clausura 2025 tournament, various Toluca players brought their versions to a higher level -and placed themselves in the shop window for a potential relocation to one of the representatives of Liga MX's Club World Cup.
The Mexican top flight must be represented at the club World Cup this summer by Monterrey, Pachuca and – if they win their play -in draw against Los Angeles FC – América.
What title winners can be at CWC?
A Toluca star who could eventually play on FIFA's renewed global tournament is Alexis Vega, who was a crucial figure for Los Diablos Rojos -both in the regular season and in the play -offs. The Mexico attacker would fit well with one of the three clubs mentioned above.
Another player who excelled for the title winners is the Brazilian center-back Luan, who scored the opening goal in the decisive profit of Toluca in the Clausura 2025 final.
Both Pachuca and Monterrey want to strengthen in the defense, and the South American can be an option.
In addition, full-back Jesús Gallardo, midfielder Marcel Ruiz and forward Paulinho in impressive form during the past League MX tournament, may have been interested in the World Cup teams of Mexico.
When is the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?
The first club World Cup to be played in an extensive format of 32 teams is held the tournament from 14 June to 13 July 2025.
The event will be organized in 12 cities in the United States, with the final that must be performed at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
