Tom Aspinall explains why long wait for Jon Jones fight is ‘probably a good thing’

Tom Aspinall has been waiting impatiently for a UFC fighting date since July 2024.

Only 60 seconds was everything that the interim -heavyweight champion needed to take Curtis Blaydes on UFC 304, which took place in Manchester, England last summer.

A fight with the other heavyweight champion of Dana White, Jon Jones, has been in conversation since he stopped Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November.

Long -term negotiations mean that Tom Aspinall will probably spend more than a year on the sidelines during the peak of his career, which would be a disaster for most athletes at a high level.

Tom Aspinall reveals health struggle

On Sunday, Aspinall and his father raged that they are not paid because of the Jones UFC fighting delay.

In the same video, the great heavyweight of England admitted that his long resignation might be a disguised blessing because he fought the majority of 2025 against illness.

“As a professional athletes or hunters, we don't like to talk about things that stop us,” said Aspinall.

“Injuries, diseases, all things like that. But this year I have actually been more times than ever in my life, and we are in April. I have a virus for Christmas, and actually I have had it on and off since then.

“I probably didn't rest enough. You can probably hear in my voice, I am still a bit nasal, but I am finally completely on it now. I have had a few antibiotics courses.

“It has made me look medically in -depth with what is going on, because I keep taking viruses. I usually get sick once a year, if that, with a cold head or whatever. I have been really sick, bound a few times. I have had ringworm and other small skin infections a few times.

“Looking back, it is probably a good job that I have not been active because I have not worked at 100 percent for a while. We finally have some results why that is.”
