Tom Brady’s Birmingham City make ambitious bid to sign former England player

Birmingham City have made a sensational move for former star Nathan Redmond to boost their promotion hopes.

The Blues were relegated to League One at the end of last season, the first under the control of their new Knighthead owners. The Americans have since welcomed NFL icon Tom Brady as an investor.

And the club's new owners have placed Birmingham well for an immediate return to the Championship. Saturday's 2-0 win over Blackpool puts the club just one point off first place in League One.

And it now appears the Midlands side are willing to invest to get them over the line. According to The Sun, Birmingham is targeting an ambitious move for Burnley star Nathan Redmond.

The winger, now 30, started his career at St Andrews and made 82 appearances before moving to Norwich. Redmond has played for Southampton, Besiktas and now Burnley, despite not appearing at all this season.

Redmond also has one England cap to his name – the solitary Three Lions appearance in 2017. Birmingham are apparently targeting a loan deal for him.

When he left the club in 2013, Redmond issued an emotional farewell statement, while also apologizing for his departure. He wrote on social media: “It has been a very emotional 11 years for me at Birmingham City FC and I have loved every minute of it.

“It has been a journey and a half coming through the ranks with Mitchell Hancox and Callum Reilly and I have loved it. I'm really going to miss it from the bottom of my heart.

“My grandmother, who passed away last year, always said to me: 'Never forget where you come from.' Well I came from Birmingham City FC!! ONCE BLUE ALWAYS BLUE… this club will remain etched in my heart and soul for the rest of my life.

“I'm just sorry I had to leave, but I'm looking forward to the next step in my journey as a professional footballer. Thank you to you, the fans, for supporting me on my journey from schoolboy to young professional. I will always be KRO!!! x yours always Nathan Redmond x.”

Birmingham will hope to achieve another positive result next week. They travel to Crawley a week on Monday ahead of a clash with struggling Burton Albion on Boxing Day.
