Sandro Tonali has answered the question to the lips of everyone who viewed Newcastle's 2-1 victory over Brentford: did he really want to score that goal?
The Italian defeated Mark Fleaks on his nearby pole after shooting close to the right corner flag, roughly parallel with the six-year box.
It caused widespread disbelief around St James' park and turned out to be the winner when Newcastle climbed to the fifth in the Premier League.
The goal was mentioned by some, including the official X account of the Premier League for the US, as 'impossible'.
So, was it a shot or a cross?
“To be honest, it was 70% cross and 30% shot,” Tonali told Premier League Productions.
'It was difficult for the goalkeeper and also difficult for me. Also a bit of luck. '
Jay Boothroyd remained stunned when he was asked to describe the goal on the live goals of Sky Sports.
“How can I describe this? I don't even know how it was that good!
“He is literally in line with the six-year box. He has pinged it with his laces in the Nwar post and he certainly intended it.
“He certainly meant that. We are talking about a player who has plenty of technology. That is such a great goal. He meant that all day.
“I'm sorry, I couldn't believe he did that.”
Newcastle needed a goal somewhere, after he had been fed back by the visitors.
Alexander Isak had given Newcastle the lead during the break, but when Nick Pope Yoane Wissa dropped halfway through the second half, Brentford got the chance to return to the game.
Bryan Mbeumo took the place of the place, hit his 16th goal of the Premier League season and gave Brentford a chance to leave their exceptionally.
The bees had won their previous five Premier League matches, but Tonali came up at the right time with his fourth goal of the season of Trumps and Toon held from there.
