Tony Bedeau dead at 45 who earned legendary status at Torquay passes away

Former Torquay United star Tony Bedeau died tragically at the age of 45.

Bageau, who came in Chelsea due to the youth ranks, enjoyed an impressive career that saw him earn legendary status at Torquay.

Bedeau also played for Barnsley, Walsall, Bury, Weymouth and Kingstonian, while he won four caps for Grenada, which he qualified through his father.

The former striker scored 65 goals in 374 performances in two spells with Torquay and is known as one of the biggest players in the club ever.

And after the tragic news, a tribute came in for Bedeau – which is eighth in Torquay's list of all time – from the entire football world.

A Torquay Club statement was: 'It is with deep sadness that Torquay United Football Club announces the death of the former striker Tony Bedeau at the age of only 45 -.

'Tony was a dynamic and exciting player who spent 10 years in the club during his first enchantment in Plainmoor between 1995 and 2006, before returning for the 2007-08 campaign.

'His pace, flair and dedication on the field have loved him by the faithfulness of the seagulls, and he remains a beloved figure in the history of Torquay United.

“Tony's death has shocked all of us, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends in this incredibly difficult time.”

Torquay will hold applause for a minute at Plainmoor for their National League South match against Hornchurch on Saturday.

Gulls co-chairman Michael Wescott also fought Bedeau when he said: 'Tony was one of the most exciting players who had worn the yellow shirt and one of my personal favorites.

'His pace and energy brought so much to the team, and he was very popular with our fans. We are deeply saddened by his death. '

Wescott continued: “He will forever be part of the legacy of Torquay United, and we offer our sincere compassion to his family and all those who knew him.”

“Tony's Legacy will live on in Torquay United, and he will always be reminded by everyone who is associated with the club.”

Elsewhere James Constable, who played in Walsall in addition to Bedeau, shared some sincere words.

“Heartbreaking to hear from the death of former teammate and friend Tony Bedeau,” he said.

“He will be missed by everyone who knew him, to be honestly one of the nicest guys you could meet. Tear beds. '

The Torquay United supporters Trust added: 'We are devastated to hear from the death of club legend Tony Bedeau.

Walsall also paid tribute when they said, 'We are sad to hear from the death of the former striker Tony Bedeau.

'Tony played for the Saddlers in the 2006/07 season, made 19 performances and scored 1 goal.

Brian Healy, an old Bedeau teammate in Torquay, also expressed his grief at the death of Begaut.

Bedeau was born in Hammersmith in 1979 and spent time with the books of Chelsea as a schoolboy.

He then came to Torquay as a student and made his senior debut at the age of 16.

Known for his pace and flair, Bedeau began to illuminate the lower competitions and was close to the movements of big money to Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Oxford United.

However, he remained loyal to the seagulls and helped them to get promotion from League Two in 2004.

Bedeau came to Walsall in Devon in 2006 and although he had difficulty replicating his best form, he helped the Saddlers to win League Two.

A year later he returned to Torquay and brought back to the club a season before ending his career at Kingstonian in 2009.
