Alexander Isak could be the most expensive transfer of the Premier League this summer this summer while trying to force a move to Liverpool.
But despite his gigantic price tag, Isak would even touch the Top 20 Prem signing sessions when they are adapted for inflation.
Isak only trains Real Sociedad in his former club after he has informed Newcastle about his desire to leave St James' park before the transfer deadline.
It is thought that the magpies want no less than £ 150 million for their star man, but Liverpool is said to believe that they can handle it to a more affordable £ 120 million figure.
Even £ 120 million would represent the biggest figure ever issued by a Premier League club, to which the current record of £ 116 million was set – also determined by Liverpool when they signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
But thanks to Football Finance experts Valuball, those transfer costs can be placed in context with transfer inflation.
Their algorithm for sorting out inflation in football transfers means that £ 120 million is not even close to a record compensation in real terms.
That title would be held by Alan Shearer, whose £ 15 million relocation from Blackburn to Newcastle United in 1996 would be worth an eye-watery £ 225 million in today's money.
Liverpool would still keep the second largest compensation thanks to their £ 8.5 million step to sign Stan Collymore from Nottingham Forest in 1995.
That switch was the equivalent of £ 219 million in the modern market.

The step of Arsenal for Dennis Bergkamp in Inter Milan represents the third most expensive deal in the Premier League history, with the Switch of the Dutchman worth £ 189 million.
Manchester United has four players in the top 10 with Juan Sebastian Veron (£ 175 million), Rio Ferdinand (£ 165 million), Andy Cole (£ 159 million) and Paul Pogba (£ 145 million) all worth a fortune in today's fees.
Chelsea's signing sessions from Fernando Torres for £ 50 million in 2011 and Andriy Shevchenko for £ 31 million in 2006 are nowadays £ 154 million and £ 142 million, so that they are both put in the top 10.
The potential £ 120 million deal from Isak would mean that he would not even break the top 20 in the list.
Moises Caicedo's £ 115 million move to Chelsea in 2023 is currently in 20th place, which was appreciated at £ 124 million this summer.
However, if Newcastle can convince the Reds to switch £ 150 million on Isak, he would screw to Man Utd and Torres 'switch to Stamford Bridge to the ninth in the list of all time – sitting between Pogbas' switch.
It seems that this can also be the way that goes, after the best buyer of the tone this week has rejected the first bid from Liverpool on Isak.
Reports suggest that the Merseyside outfit has made an offer worth around £ 120 million.
Newcastle is desperately looking for their star man and has offered him a new, improved deal.
The contract also contains a release clause with which Isak can leave the next summer.
