In 2023, Sevilla defender Gonzalo Montiel was accused of sexual assault in his home country of Argentina, over an incident that took place four years earlier. The case has been under investigation since then, but that has now come to an end.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that the case against Montiel had been dismissed, with the chairman citing “contradictions in the complainant's story”. In response, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to discuss the ruling, according to Relevo.
“Today I have been acquitted of a completely false accusation. They used my name to get the word out and publicize a case in which I had absolutely no involvement. They harmed my family and my wife, who, because she was pregnant, had to deal with this lie.”
Sevilla are now expected to push hard to sell Montiel during the 2025 winter transfer window as clubs will now avoid signing him.
