Tottenham is still hopeful that they can close a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White, despite a furious row with his club Nottingham Forest claims that the London side illegally charged the player.
Spurs looked nailed to sign the 25-year-old after activating his £ 60 million release clause, with a medical prepared for the English international.
But Forest came back and claimed that they had not given Tottenham permission to speak with the player and consulted with their lawyers about a possible infringement of confidentiality with regard to the release clause.
There has been some confusion about the dispute, in which some fans wondered how Forest can stand in the way of a player whose release clause has been activated.
But Forest will submit a complaint to the Premier League after Spurs reportedly had submitted an offer to the exact number from his release clause.
According to Football London, however, Spurs are still optimistic about sealing a movement for Gibbs -White and the current feeling in the club is that forest can only delay the transfer – blocking.
Gibbs-White was not present in the MatchDay team for Forest's first pre-season, because the team with Chesterfield with Chesterfield pulled and it is speculated that the current Transfersaga was the cause.
But in fact the English star would never return to this point after he was part of the group of players who were held on international service last month – and would come back to the training next week.
The report continues to say that Gibbs-White is a player who has long been admired by the new boss Thomas Frank after his impressive displays for Forest in midfield in the past seasons.
In the 2024-25 campaign he scored seven times and helped eight goals that led to a lot of interest in his signature – including from Manchester City.
Spurs have already made three signing sessions this summer, with Mohammed Kudus from West Ham arriving for £ 55 million.
Tottenham has also taken the option to sign Mathys Tel van Bayern and Kevin Danso permanently after their loan spells.
