Tottenham have not achieved anything yet, says Maddison after AZ fightback

James Maddison warned his Tottenham teammates that they have not yet achieved anything, after a second-Leg fighterback against AZ kept their Europa League-Hoop alive.

Faced with a 1-0 deficit after a terrible first legs, Tottenham hit back to go in the draw by goals from Wilson Odobert and Maddison in Thursday's second stage.

Peer Koopmeiners made it 2-2 aggregated just past the hour, but Odobert who had not scored for Spurs until Thursday took his brace to send them.

Tottenham struggled this season in the Premier League, 13th in the table, eight points on drift of the upper half.

The men of Ange Postecoglou still accommodate the hope of European glory, although Maddison says they should remain grounded.

The midfielder said to TNT Sports: “There was a lot of talk after last week's performance, we were honest with ourselves – it wasn't good enough.

“I know what we are in here and we have done the job. We have not achieved anything yet, we are in the quarterfinals and we are kicking up and we look forward to it.”

Tottenham will be confronted with Eintracht Frankfurt in the last eight, with Lazio or Bodo/Glimt opposite the winner of that draw in the semi -final.

Spurs were hit by injuries this season, but were back to something that was approaching full power on Thursday, and Maddison felt that the regular center-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van Samen men.

“In recent months when we have talked about injuries and missing important players, then we are in the tunnel tonight and you look at the team and it is a group of men,” said Maddison.

“If you have the backs of players who are experienced and have played at this level for a long time, this makes a difference.

“Micky and Cuti, they were good at the back, it was a solid version and we are justified.

“Wilson Odobert will get the headlines tonight and rightly, two goals and he was a threat, I thought he was absolutely fantastic. I'm going to give him a big pat on the back.”

Spurs goes to Fulham in their next Premier League match on Sunday, before he was confronted in another London Derby after the international break in another London Derby.
