Tottenham’s players are hiding behind Postecoglou and Levy, according to Merson

The players of Tottenham look like they are now hiding behind Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy after their “shocking” midweek display against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, says Paul Merson.

Spurs, who traveled to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday, took a lead from one goal to Anfield on Thursday evening, but were hit 4-0 because they missed the chance to hire Newcastle in next month's Carabao Cup final.

In the meantime, Tottenham's Premier League points are closer to the relegation zone than a place in Europe next season, and Merson says that the side of Postecoglou is now “terrible” to watch.

“Everyone is now hiding behind the manager and levy, that's what I feel,” he said.

“There were some experienced players who are there [against Liverpool]. There were many caps and it wasn't good enough for me. It was as if “if we are defeated, it will be to be ange and it will be to raise.”

“I found it shocking.

“There are ways to lose. Everyone loses football matches, whoever you are [can] Loss a football match, but there are manners, this is a semi -final, count in.

“I think Ange is in between [the Devil and] The deep blue sea now.

“They don't attack or do not defend. At least before it was Gung-Ho, it was as if we had a lot of shots and we might be defeated better.

“But now it's like they don't really defend, but they don't attack, nor is it a terrible watch. It is currently a terrible watch.”

Ange: talking about the future 'does not come in my head'

Postecoglou says that will exclude about his future and focuses on trying to save the Tottenham season when they travel to Villa in the FA Cup.

Postecoglou knows that speculation about his work will intensify if a FA Cup outputs follows the heavy Carabao Cup -Defeat to Liverpool.

Asked if he would still be in charge if they lost at Villa, Postecoglou replied: “That is not in my head.

“I clearly get that a huge subject of discussion, because if things don't go well, you look at the person who is largely responsible for that and that is me.

“You have to continue with it. It does not change the decisions I make, how I feel, how I work today or how determined I have to continue on this path.

“At the moment the focus is on getting this group of players for Sunday. It is a big match and hopefully a positive result and then we will get a number of important players back in the coming weeks, which I think will help.

“We are currently an easy marking. There is inconsistency in our play, everyone says.

“It feels like there is an eagerness to get the club down for some reason when there is a chance.

“We are currently giving them the chance, but that cannot be mapped. That cannot be our motivation to change people's opinion.”
