James Trafford has explained his reasoning for the re -signing of Manchester City and woked a long -term interest from Newcastle.
The 22-year-old had been praised by Newcastle United for over a year, but opted for a return to the Etihad Stadium, where he came through the club's academy.
City sold Trafford to Burnley for a first £ 14 million two years ago and placed matching rights to the deal.
As soon as Newcastle was offered on the international under-21 of England, Man City chose to act and quickly concluded a deal to take the Shot stopper for a reported £ 31 million compensation.
The transfer was reported as a British record agreement for a keeper, as a result of which the £ 30 million fee has overshadowed Everton Sunderland for Jordan Pickford in 2017.
Trafford made the decision to return Man City, despite the fact that Ederson was established as their No. 1, with his backup Stefan Ortega who is currently still at the club.
Against the Times, Trafford admitted that he had the first choice of Man City and the first choice of England on the status of Ederson and Pickford as the first choice of England.
He insisted that Man City, instead of Newcastle, was the best option for his career.
“That's the goal,” said Trafford.
“If I do it, it's brilliant. I know that I have to work every day to achieve that, because it is difficult to be somewhere for ten years, let alone the best team in the world. '
“There was clearly a decision to make.
'City was the best option for my career and I clearly believe in myself. I believed that this was the right place as a keeper for me.
'I was not surprised then [City came in for him] But I don't really think too far ahead. When they did, I thought, “Ok, sound”. '
Trafford gave only 16 goals when Burnley brought the promotion back to the Premier League in previous term, with an amazing 30 championship of clean sheets.
That was the same as an EFL record of 71 years, set by Port Vale.
At one point, Trafford and Burnley went 12 consecutive league matches without giving a goal between December and March.
Trafford, who was part of the English team under the age of 21, won the European Championships in 2023, is still waiting for his first limit for the senior side.
He was part of the first 33-man team for Euro 2024, but in the end did not make the last 26-man selection.
Trafford, however, was mentioned in the first selection of Thomas Tuchel in March and remained in his next selection in May.
