Liverpool remain top of the Premier League, although the draw against Fulham on Saturday will have them looking over their shoulders.
The January transfer window offers Arne Slot the opportunity to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the title race. But he also has to deal with the possible exits of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The trio's contract expires this summer and there has been no official word yet on a new deal for any of them. With the possibility that they may leave, it appears Liverpool are now looking for replacements.
Alexander-Arnold is keen to keep his situation out of the spotlight, unlike Salah, who has publicly expressed his frustration with owners FSG. Here, Mirror Football collects all the latest Liverpool transfer news.
Talks have begun with Salah's replacement
Liverpool have reportedly contacted Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane over a possible move to Anfield as doubts grew over Mo Salah's future at Anfield. Salah will become a free agent this summer, just like Sane.
According to BILD, the Reds see Sane as a potential replacement for their Egyptian star should he leave. The German previously played for four years at Manchester City and earned 67 caps for his national teams.
If Bayern choose not to give him a new contract, the 28-year-old could return to England. He is regarded as one of the best wingers in Europe and was previously on the Reds' radar.
Red target drops give a hint about the future
Lyon star Rayan Cherki has refused to rule out a move away from the Ligue 1 side in the near future, with Liverpool said to be keeping an eye on the 21-year-old. Cherki starred for Lyon, scoring 22 goals and providing 31 assists in 157 games in all competitions.
He only signed a 12-month contract extension in September, locking him in until June 2026. But Lyon are in financial difficulties and could well sell to raise money, a situation Cherki appears to have accepted.
“We'll see at the end of the season if I'm still there or not,” the attacking midfielder replied bluntly when asked about his future after Lyon beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the Europa League.
Alexander-Arnold speaks about the future
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has vowed not to let his contract saga play out in public amid persistent rumors of a move to Real Madrid. The 26-year-old is on course to become a free agent at the end of this season, with his current contract with the Reds set to expire in June 2025.
Madrid have long been tipped to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, making him their No. 1 target for next summer. But the right-back has now insisted he will remain tight-lipped about his future.
“I've been at the club for 20 years now and have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of them have played out in public,” he told Sky Sports. “Neither will this one.”
