Trent Alexander-Arnold OUT of Carabao Cup final as Liverpool discover extent of injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the Carabao Cup final for the second consecutive season, but Liverpool's right back seems to have avoided a serious injury.

Alexander-Arnold stumbled away with a single problem in the second half of the last-16 defeat on Tuesday evening the defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in Anfield, and there were the first fears that he could miss the rest of the season, especially because he seemed to be running his knee awkward while he fell into a challenge with PSG Midder Vitinha.

But according to the post, Alexander-Arnold has avoided to take up a serious injury and it is hoped that he will play again for the Reds before the end of the campaign, after which his contract on Merseyside will run out in the midst of the constant interest of Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold was one of a large number of injuries from the Liverpool team for the last victory of last season Carabao Cup against Chelsea, together with Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai. Virgil van Dijk scored the extra-time winner as an exhausted Reds side won 1-0.

The absence of Alexander-Arnold of Sunday's final against Newcastle will be a huge blow to Liverpool, who is currently also without the services of Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez. Jarell Quansah came up for Alexander-Arnold against PSG, but he is more suitable to play in the middle.

Alexander-Arnold's injury will also come as a blow to New England boss Thomas Tuchel, who wanted to call him on Friday in his first three Lions team.

Reds boss Arne Slot had said it was too early to judge Alexander-Arnold on Wednesday, but he had more positive news about the French center-back Ibrahima Konate, who asked to be replaced against PSG during extra time.

Slot said: “With Ibou we only expected that he was tired or that he had some cramps, so we hope and expect that he will be ready to play again on Sunday.”

Konate will probably be in the middle of the back next to Van Dijk, where Quansah arrives for Alexander-Arnold Right-back and Andy Robertson Links. Slot is also expected to choose Caoimhin Kelleher as his starting goalkeeper for the collision, because this season he has done most of the Carabao Cup -Run.
