Trent Alexander-Arnold will be banned from wearing iconic shirt number at Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold has never worn no. 66 during his entire club career, but the 26-year-old will be forced to select a new song if he joins Real Madrid in the summer

Trent Alexander-Arnold is forced to change his favorite shirt number if he moves from Liverpool to Real Madrid this summer. The current Liverpool contract from Alexander-Arnold expires at the end of June and it has been reported generally that he already has a deal to become a member of Real.

Speculation about his future – and that of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah – have been widespread throughout the season, with all three of their contracts. Real has been making love of Alexander-Arnold for months and wants him to be accompanied by his teammate of England Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital to become Dani Carvajal's successor.

Real saw an offer of £ 20 million rejected in the transfer star of January, but has now succeeded in agreeing a five-year-old deal worth around £ 12.5 mA years for the 26-year-old. An aspect that Alexander-Arnold will have to change is his shirt number, with its iconic No. 66 not allowed in La Liga.

He has supported No. 66 since he started in the Liverpool academy, despite wearing no, 2, no. 7, no. 8 and no. 10 for England. But he will have to land on a new number, given that La Liga does not allow shirt numbers higher than no. 25, which corresponds to the maximum squad size that is registered for the domestic campaign.

The strict rules have also prevented teams from withdrawing the number of shirts in honor of club legends such as Lionel Messi in Barcelona or Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid.

The only players may wear shirt numbers above No. 25 are youth players, who do not have to be registered in the same way. Raul Asencio is allowed, for example, to wear no. 35 during this campaign for Echt. Currently, the only vacant shirt numbers that are available at Real No.12, No.24 and NO.25 are available.

Alexander-Arnold still has to make his decision public, but the wheels seem to be on the move before his departure, with Liverpool boss Arne Slot reportedly looking at Bayer Leverkusen-Star Jeremie Frimpong to replace him on right back.

In October Alexander-Arnold stated that he wants to win the Ballon d'Or and is considered the best right back to play the game. Asked how he would like to think in 20 years, he replied: “A legend of football. Someone who has changed the game – that's the most important thing that I have:” Don't play the game, change the game. “

“So that is the inheritance that I want: being the biggest rightback to ever play football, if I am honest. I know there have been so many, but I have to reach the stars and that is where I believe my ceiling can go.”
