An unusual summer, an unusual transfer window. The club World Cup tears the Rulebook – and Real Madrid has not wasted time, reinforcing for the disruptive tournament that FIFA has set up in the United States. Huijsen has already arrived and now Alexander-Arnold is joining him. Both are available for Xabi Alonso thanks to a special signing window that is open to all 32 participating clubs.
Madrid has felt the effects of a thin team in what has become a much longer season than normal. The situation deteriorated with a series of injuries-many of them in the long term, important players such as Carvajal and Militão. But the World Cup offers an opportunity to correct the course in terms of squadron planning, and Alonso will now be able to count on Alexander-Arnold (as well as Huijsen) for the tournament in the US.
FIFA has gone completely out to increase its renewed competition, to make no effort – or regulatory changes. From 1 June to 10 June all 32 clubs have access to an extraordinary transfer window prior to the tournament. In addition, teams that reach the knockout rounds receive two extra signing sessions for the last phases.
Bringing in Alexander-Arnold was not easy. Although the full-back would be a free agent at the end of the season, Madrid still had to reach an agreement with Liverpool to secure his early release. His contract would expire on June 30, as usual – but for Xabi Alonso to have him from the start of the tournament, the green light of Liverpool was essential. Otherwise the Englishman would not have been eligible to play until the quarterfinals, as soon as the second window is opened for two extra signing sessions. Thanks to the deal with Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is in the US and ready to participate in Xabi Alonso's team from the first day. Mission completed for Real Madrid.
Extensive squadrons for CWC
La Fábrica – The famous Youth Academy of Madrid – will also play a role in playing in the US. Each team can register a maximum of 35 players for the tournament, with at least three keepers. MatchDay Squads require careful selection, because only 15 players can be mentioned on the couch for each match – three more than the usual 12 allowed in La Liga and the Champions League.
With Huijsen and Alexander-Arnold on board, Alonso now has a 25-man team for the trip to the US, which means that 11 available places for Academy Players can be included in the Miami-bound group. Madrid will set up their basis of operations in the city of Florida for the duration of the competition.
When will Trent make his real Madrid debut?
The last squadron lists must be held on June 14 – four days before the opening match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly van Egypt on FIFA on 14 June (the early hours of June 15 in Spain), to be held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
A second window is opened for teams to make two extra signing sessions between 27 June and 3 July, specifically aimed at players whose contracts ended and whose clubs they had never released before. However, players must be registered for 48 hours before they play, making it unlikely that they will occur in the round of 16.
That phase is still a way out. The debut of Madrid and the first outing of Alexander-Arnold in White, all going to be good-on June 18 at 9 p.m. and against Al Hilal.
