Trent Alexander-Arnold has given Liverpool chiefs no indication he wants to join Real Madrid despite an offer from the Spanish giants.
The Liverpool defender continues to be linked with a move to the Bernabeu this season. They are interested in signing him for nothing at the end of the season once his contract expires.
And while that remains a distinct possibility, La Liga has tried to push a deal forward. They approached Liverpool with an offer just hours before the January window – an attempt that was immediately rejected by Liverpool.
The Reds are understandably unwilling to sell quickly as they are currently locked in a battle to win the Premier League in Arne Slot's debut season. And Alexander-Arnold's position on a January move has now been revealed.
The defender has given his current club no indication that he wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu, despite reports from Spain suggesting otherwise. The England star has been in talks with Liverpool over a new contract for months, while there is still hope he will remain on Merseyside.
And while Alexander-Arnold didn't give a definitive answer about his future, he did confirm that all discussions would take place privately. He said: “I have been at the club for 20 years and have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of them have played out in public. This one won't be either.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has also spoken out about Alexander-Arnold's future. The Dutchman provided a telling update after the defender found the net in the recent 5-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.
Amid the links with Real Madrid, he said: “He's playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably says it all, so I don't think I need to say much more.
“I am very happy with Trent, just as happy as with Mo and with Virgil, so for me there is no difference. To the outside world: there may be a few more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two, but yes, I am happy with all three at the moment.”
However, league legend Jamie Carragher sees the situation slightly differently as he believes the new update is a sign that the player wants out. He said on social media: “I love Trent as a boy and as a player but his team would have told Real Madrid to bid and would also have known LFC would reject it. It is to try to cover themselves if he leaves for home.” free.”
In total, Alexander-Arnold has made 333 appearances for Liverpool since graduating from the club's youth academy. In that time he has won the Premier League, the Champions League and a host of other trophies. He hopes to play a key role this weekend when Liverpool take on Manchester United at Anfield.
