Donald Trump joked that he could play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and claimed that he is a 'very good athlete' that looks 'extremely good in shorts'.
In addition to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Trump spoke with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, while he would join the action when the tournament lands on American soil next summer.
“I could play,” Trump said with a grin. 'I see the money that these football players earn … I could try to play! I am a very good athlete. '
Trump continued with his son Barron and described him as a striking football talent – and exceptionally long.
“My son is a very good athlete and he is a good football player. On the long side for a football player – he is 6'9 '. That is quite long? '
Infantino replied with a smile: “That's pretty long – but that's good!”
But Trump was not ready. 'I can put on [soccer] Shorts – I look extremely good in shorts – and get to the piece, “he joked, more laughter of the crowd.
The World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026, with Trump pronounced strong support for the tournament that comes to North America.
Trump confirmed that the trek for the World Cup 2026 will take place in December in Washington.
Although Trump is not on the field for the USMNT next summer, there is every chance that it is central to the tournament – comparable to the Club World Cup.
The American president was seen on stage with the Chelsea team when they lifted the tournament trophy at Metlife Stadium after beating PSG last month.
Trump had previously awarded Chelsea and England -star Cole Palmer to the Golden Ball Award – but the player seemed stunned by the presence of the president.
Afterwards, Trump remained on stage – handed medals players – before he switched the Club World Cup trophy and celebrating while the side took the title.
While many were stunned by the incident at the time, Trump's second most son Eric later said that the US president was invited by the team to participate in the festivities.
Speaking with BBC Sport, Eric said: 'Listen, he is the commander -in -chief of the United States of America.
'The winning team invited him to stage because they said it would be the greatest honor of their lives if the President of the United States could present the club World Cup trophy.
“And by the way, I was there, I looked at it. The place went crazy. And there is no one who has done for sport than he does.
