Tuchel pictured on 1st scouting trip since starting his role as England manager

Thomas Tuchel has been spotted on his first scouting assignment since officially taking charge as England manager.

The former Chelsea boss sat next to his new assistant Anthony Barry as Tottenham hosted Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Tuchel watched the Premier League match from the boardroom as he began to think about his squad for his first games against Latvia and Albania in March.

With a number of potential candidates on both sides, Tuchel was there to keep an eye on the likes of Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

The English stars on display were quick to act, with Solanke giving the hosts an early lead before Gordon equalized to put Newcastle back on level terms, all within the opening ten minutes.

Speaking to TNT Sports at half-time, Karen Carney insisted Tuchel would have been 'impressed' by Solanke's headline opener.

Tuchel is also expected to attend Liverpool versus Manchester United on Sunday, where Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire will hope to impress.

As he looks to put his stamp on his new role, Tuchel has appointed fitness coach Nicolas Mayer to his staff, alongside assistant Anthony Barry, goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilario and analyst James Melbourne.

Tuchel formally started work on January 1 and became Gareth Southgate's permanent successor by signing an 18-month contract that will take him through to next year's World Cup in North America.

Meanwhile, Villa Park is emerging as a candidate to host England's match against Andorra in September.

The qualifying match on September 6 cannot be played at Wembley because it clashes with a Coldplay concert.

But Aston Villa are among the options the Football Association is considering for the game.
