For the first time since the 2021-2022 season, more than one Ligue 1 side will compete in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
After six matchdays, Stade Brestois 29 and Lille OSC are guaranteed to finish in the top 24 at worst, meaning they will progress beyond the league stage.
Both sides are currently positioned to progress straight to the last 16, with Brest and Les Dogues sitting seventh and eighth respectively in the table, with 13 points each.
On Tuesday, Éric Roy's men recorded a 1-0 victory over PSV, while Bruno Génésio's Lille recorded a 3-2 victory against SK Sturm Graz the following day.
The previous time two French teams reached the knockout stages of this tournament was in 2021-2022, when Lille were eliminated by Chelsea in the round of 16 (4-1 on aggregate), while Paris Saint-Germain lost to Real Madrid (3-2 on aggregate).
With two games remaining in the league stage, three of the four French teams are in the top 24, while AS Monaco are in sixteenth place despite a 3–0 defeat at Arsenal on matchday six.
Luis Enrique's men won their previous Champions League match by the same score against Red Bull Salzburg, but are currently one point behind Dinamo Zagreb for a place in the knockout round.
Back-to-back defeats at this tournament leave Les Monégasques with a 3.3% chance of reaching the top eight, while all but guaranteeing a place in the knockout round.
PSG's chances of a knockout place have increased significantly thanks to their win on matchday six.
Matchday seven starts on January 21, with Monaco's opening match against Aston Villa at Stade Louis II.
