Those who end up in the top eight automatically move on to the last 16, where they are sown.
They will wait for the winners of eight two-legged knock-out play-off tires with the clubs arranged from the ninth to 24th.
Those who end between the ninth and 16th are sown and are confronted with a team from the 17th to the 24th, with the advantage of playing the second stage at home.
The clubs are eliminated 25th or lower and do not get access to the Europa League.
The play-off tires will take place in mid-February, with the last-16 games in the first two weeks of March.
The draw for the play-off round is on Friday at 11:00 GMT.
