The rumors are no longer just whispering – they have become reality. The speculation has become official and the Liga MX now has a multi-title-winning goalkeeper of world class. Pumas has announced the signing of Keylor Navas and as expected, Mexican football broke out with excitement.
In an interview with Tudn, the Costa Rican goalkeeper opened about what it means to wear the colors of Club Universidad Nacional. He shared how the decision was made and what eventually convinced him to make the move.
“The decision was easy”
“When a top club comes to call, you can't say no,” said Navas. 'I spoke [Pumas’ sporting vice-president] Eduardo Saracho, with the president [Luis González] – Everyone treated me incredibly well. They explained the vision of the club, how they work and where they want to bring the team. I thought it was great. It was perfect in line with my values and beliefs, so the decision was simple. “
“A real hunger to be at the top”
Navas also spoke strongly about the club's facilities, in particular the famous Cantera training grounds. “I was really impressed by Cantera,” he said. “The fields are of top in hand and they still improve them. As a player you motivate that you. You don't have to worry about anything – you train and give you the best. What I liked best about the project is the ambition. There is a real hunger to be at the top. We have big dreams and we are very motivated to win titles.”
When asked about the environment he found on arrival, Navas did not hesitate: “It is a very healthy dressing room. The players want to learn and grow. With my experience I think I can help them in many ways. And you have to take advantage of the energy and excitement that the younger boys can take – it can really help us become a great team.”
