UEFA no longer had medals for Tottenham when she ended their 17-year-old waiting for a trophy.
The filthy goal of Brennan Johnson after the ball of Luke Shaw's arm bounced, turned out to be the only goal of the Nervy Europa League final.
Micky van de Ven saved the day by acrobatically cleaning up the line while Spurs held against Manchester United.
And on long, last last, Tottenham was able to hold a piece of silverware for the first time since the League Cup 2008.
However, while the Spurs players stood in line at the San Mames Stadium -Pitch to collect their medals, UEFA bosses did not have enough.
It meant that Captain Son Heung-Min had to go without it while he hung the trophy in the air.
Ironically, eight referees received medals.
Just like James Maddison who went full John Terry in his entire kit for the parties.
It seems that important men Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero also have to go without it – although Spurs will undoubtedly be able to find a few extras to ensure that everyone has something to commemorate the victory.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said a few words to Son – possibly congratulating the South Korean, possibly apologizing for the blunder – before he handed the trophy.
And not surprising, many fans have flooded in response to social media.
A posted: “How embarrassing @europaleague & @uefacom in the field of winners medals for the last few Spurs players, including the leader! You would think they would make sure there was a few extra! They are hardly any solid gold!”
Another joke: “There is something so incredibly traces about UEFA that no longer touches medals during the presentation, to the point that our captain and a big large large large large trophy cancel without anyone around his neck while Timo Werner gives it big over his shoulder.”
A third added: “Shame@Europaleague that does not have enough medals for the Spurs team.”
