UEFA reject Barcelona stadium request placing Champions League games in doubt

Barcelona's condition about their return to Spotify Camp Nou continues, after their formal request to the council a permit to open the stadium has been delayed. Now UEFA is the newest delivery person from Bad News for Barcelona on the stadium front.

On Monday, Barcelona had to submit a request to the city council to discover their opening permit in Rquest, but with further exams it discovered that there were still problems with the security measures in the stadium, because they initially try to open it for 27,000 fans. After discussions on Tuesday, they agreed to push that meeting back.

The great effort for Barcelona is to be back in Camp Nou on 14 September to be confronted with Valencia in their first League match. If not, it can be behind closed doors. Furthermore, there will be a deadline in the first place on August 28, when the Champions League drawing takes place. The Catalan giants have until that time to inform UEFA about where they will play their home games in the competition phase of the Champions League, after which they cannot be changed.

Barcelona had made a request to play their first game in the competition phase away from home, related to La Liga, to give them more time to prepare Camp Nou for their opener. However, Catalunya Radio informs that UEFA has rejected that request because they do not give a special dispensation about the issue and have not done this in the past. They informed Barcelona that this was the case at the time.

The difference will take about two weeks, with the first Champions League matches between 16 and 18 September, and the second round that takes place between 30 and 1 October. If Camp is not ready on time, Barcelona can be forced to return to Montjuic for the first half of their European campaign.
