How does the Europa League work last-16 work work?

The top eight clubs are linked based on their positions at the end of the competition phase to form four pairs placed: 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th.

The clubs are drawn in each pair of one of the two positions in the round of 16 against the relevant winner of the play-offs of the knockout phase, the position of which was determined by the play-off draw of the knock outphase.
