Lopes started training in Lobo Gym in Mexico with people like Francisco Grasso and former UFC women's flying weight champion Alexa Grasso.
After being out of the blue before he moved to Mexico, Lopes made a heartbreaking vow for his family, who set him on his way in his career.
“Yes, I never said I would come back, but I perfectly remember a few words that I said to my father and mother and especially to my brothers and sisters, because we are a very close family,” Lopes began to explain in an interview with ESPN MMA.
“I said,” I'm going there and I just want to come back and see you if I can offer a better life for you. ” And I think things have happened little by little, I can come back now and I can offer a better life for them.
“So that has been my promise to them, and it is something that has kept me strong. I don't want to fail with that promise, because I stopped with school, I left everything behind to pursue that dream, and I couldn't disappoint them,” Lopes continued.
